What Is It?
Our Dog Breed DNA test can give insights about a mixed-breed dog based on genetics that you may not learn from anywhere else. Using a panel of DNA markers that are correlated to over 60 AKC breeds (covering about 92% of the AKC recognized breeds), we test the dog’s DNA and give you his or her “ancestral roots”—the breeds that have contributed to the dog’s DNA.
Our Dog Breed DNA test can tell you what levels, or percentages, of your dog’s makeup is from the breeds detected. We even include a short Description and Health Summary for each of the breeds detected.

Why Dog Breed Testing?
Knowing a dog’s breed makeup can give you clues about their behavioral and health predispositions. It can guide owners in caring for your dog, as different breeds have different needs for food, exercise, and companionship.
This information can be useful in planning a dog’s diet, since studies show that dog breeds vary in their nutritional requirements. The breed list may also be helpful to your veterinarian when trying to diagnose a pet’s illness. A list of your dog’s breed makeup may help your veterinarian spot uncommon health problems that he or she has not previously considered.

How Does It Work?
Unlike other DNA tests that require a veterinarian to take a blood sample, our technology allows for simple and painless DNA sample collection using a cheek swab. Our DNA testing kit contains everything you need, including detailed instructions, to safely and successfully collect DNA samples from your dog.
We’ll send you or your gift recipient a DNA sample collection kit complete with instructions. DNA samples are taken simply by swabbing the inside of the dog’s cheek. Mail the samples back to our laboratory, and within 3 weeks the dog’s genetic makeup will be known!
