Fucosidosis DNA Test for English Springer Spaniels
Fucosidosis is a lysomal storage disease, inherited as an autosomal recessive disorder which causes a deficiency in alpha-fucosidase. This enzyme deficiency prevents the breakdown of polysaccharides inside the cell. The disease is characterized by a deteriorating nervous system that results in behavioral changes. Some clinical signs are loss of learned behavior, deafness, blindness, and depression.
DDC Veterinary is offering fast, affordable DNA testing for Fucosidosis. This test is available to breeders and owners of English Springer Spaniels worldwide.
We will provide the owner with a detailed DNA report showing the canine's ID information and genotype for Fucosidosis: CLEAR, CARRIER, or AFFECTED. Highlights for this new test include:
- DNA samples can be collected easily at home using buccal (cheek) swabs provided as part of a free DNA sample collection kit.
- Dogs can be DNA tested at ANY age.
- The cost for testing is $68 (US) per canine with a $10 discount per test for 5 or more samples submitted at the same time. Payment can be submitted with the return samples.
- DNA results are both mailed and emailed within 10 business days of receipt of the samples.
